Keeler Presser - ODU Week

K.C. Keeler held his weekly press conference from the BOB on Monday afternoon.  Here is a quick recap of what was discussed and the video embedded at the end...

The highlights here are pretty basic.  Keeler really did not divulge into any details about the game itself other than the significance of the first ever CAA game for Old Dominion, going as far as to say it "signifies the most, except for the first game they ever played."  He talked about how they are as "good as anyone else we'll play" and about the commitment level of their administration and Coach Wilder.  He also touched on how Virginia is a high school football hotbed and they have done well in recruiting their area.  Nothing as revealing as the CAA Teleconference earlier today, but still good to show respect for an opponent that is coming in as a clear underdog.

The player interviews were done by Sr. WR Bobby Russo and Jr. DB Marcus Burley.  Russo talked about why he came to Delaware and being a walk-on Blue Hen.  Burley had some great lines in the short segment he has on this video.  Marcus feels like not only is this a big game, but it will "prove where they are in the CAA, and it will also prove where we are in the CAA."  He also discussed how the communication on defense has improved greatly after a great week of practice and preparation, concluding with his feeling that they are now working better as a unit.

It is always good to see when players really get the significance of games and do not overlook an opponent.  This game means tons for both schools in that Old Dominion is looking to start of their first conference schedule with a big splash on the road, and a big win for the Blue Hens could help to re-assert their position as contenders for the CAA title instead of being only 3rd or 4th.  Plus, if the Monarchs are for real and they do pull off some upsets down the road, a victory over them now will do great things for rankings and playoff position.
