Keeler's CAAFBtc & Presser (9/5-6)

Coach K.C. Keeler was back on the media circuit and we have your audio and analysis right here for you.  Expect a lot of Sasek injury news all week long...

Teleconference

Keeler's Monday morning started off just as predicted, talking about how it took three plays for Navy to destroy the Hens and how Sasek looked great, but dropped passes prevented anything from getting going, leading to the early deficit as the Hens fell to the Mids.

Keeler showered praise on what Sasek did under center before the injury, even comparing his form to Flacco at one point.  However, with the injury to Sasek's knee, Coach kept on the positive side of things, mentioning that there is no evidence of structural damage, and that the injury during the game was a swelling of the knee and bursa sac.  Those are awful.  I've had them a few times.  It is the fluid sac behind your knee that acts as a cushion for the joint (my expert medical definition).  When the bursa sac swells, it literally created a ball behind your knee that restricts your joint movement.  It takes time for the fluid to head back in the right direction (through the joint to the front of the knee), and my guess is he will not practice until late in the week if at all.  At this point, it seems like it is too early to tell whether or not Sasek will be starting come Saturday, but with an MRI coming up, there's always a chance he could be under center versus the Golden Rams.

With Navy having run the triple-option, Keeler was not able to get too much out this last weekend's game defensively.  In true coach-speak, he dragged out this point for a good minute or so.  There were some positives I'm sure, but for the most part, there is no way to tell what was good or bad beyond the secondary, which was probably lulled to sleep by the time Proctor threw his TD pass.

On the topic of the upcoming game, Coach Keeler just wants the focus to be on Delaware only.  He stressed avoiding the dropped passes and small mistakes that led to the problems early vs. Navy.  On the defensive side of the ball, Keeler says it's like "week one."  With the Hens finally being able to put their normal defensive game plan into effect, the coaching staff will finally be able to make better assessments going forward.  This is one of the top two themes of the weekend, in my opinion.  The defense was embarassed by a Navy team with a superior scheme that the Hens couldn't keep up with, and now they get a D-II school in West Chester gift-wrapped for them to dismantle and redeem themselves.  Anything over ten points allowed will be criminal on Saturday.

The other major aspect of the weekend will be how Tim Donnelly performs if Sasek cannot play.  Keeler appears to have a ton of confidence in the quarterback who just missed out on being the starter this past weekend, and it seems like if Trevor is out for more than just this week, that Coach Keeler will be able to push forward with Timmy under center.

Keeler's Presser - vs. West Chester

Non-Conference Schedule - where you prepare for conference
Brutal Schedule ahead
about UD getting better
no O-line or RB like ours
Beyond avoiding talking about west chester
Negle: improve on all facets
Worrilow: alot to prove on D

Last week's CAAFBtc had a lot about how the schedule will change in the future for the Hens.  With this being the second-to-last matchup for the Hens vs. West Chester, Coach Keeler is talking about WCU like they are already an ex-girlfriend.  He constantly mentioned that this week is about "us" and not West Chester.  The non-conference schedule, to Keeler, is "where you prepare" for the brutal CAA slate ahead.  He did not go as far as saying that they would beat both WCU and DSU, but he knows that it will be the conference games that will be more difficult for the Blue Hens and they need to prepare for it.

Coach does seem very confident in his offensive line and his running back (Andrew Pierce) moving forward, and is looking for the rest of the team to get on their level as they push through these next two weeks leading up to CAA matchups.

Will Nagle's one comment in the video was about the offense improving on all facets of the game.  As to who is under center when the game starts is still up in the air, but it seems like the Hens have their bullet points to take care of this week in practice on the offensive side of the ball.  Paul Worrilow gave the defensive perspective, reiterating that not too much was learned about the defense vs. Navy, but there were some things to take away from the game and a lot to improve on.
