FCS Bracketology - Pt. 2

One week in and there are a few changes to the original bracket.  I am gearing up for tons of rage here in future Bracketology reviews.  I can tell that this will end up becoming a rant every week and we're only in our second edition here.  This has been your fair warning.  Proceed with caution anytime you see that header on this blog...

Delaware gets dropped from 7th to 11th, now set up in a road game at App. State.  You face the Navy triple-option and get dropped FOUR spots?  It seems a bit harsh.  This is where I will breathe for a second and remember this is the end of the year projection.  Clearly, the thought must be that the CAA is stronger than they seemed last week, and that Delaware cannot go through the season without losing 2-3 games.  However, if we take a look at who moved ahead of the Hens, it tells a different story:
  • #7 - North Dakota State
  • #8 - Wofford
  • #9 - Richmond
  • #10 - Sacramento State
Remember that the seeding of teams 9-12 are not just based on rank, but location as well (and I'm sure finances play a role in all of this too).  In this sense, Delaware might actually be #9.  However, this takes the home game away from the Hens, and gives it to teams in NDSU and Wofford that did nothing more than beat up on weaker teams the previous week (and Wofford only beat Presby by 7).  To me, the flaw here is in the ranked teams and that Delaware's loss to Navy should not have had this effect.

Then you look at Richmond facing Wofford in the 8-9 matchup.  If location was the most important factor for determining the 9-12 seeds, then you would think that the Spiders would travel to ASU.  Instead, they travel a bit further to face Wofford (possibly because it presents easier travel for Delaware) giving them the much easier game matchup.  Is the point here that Richmond is the better team (that faced Duke, the ACC door mat) than Delaware (that took on a Navy team coming off of an 8-win season and a bowl game), or that travel worked out better?  Way to many questions here.

Sacramento State deserves the credit for beating Oregon State, no question.  But let's see if it was a fluke or something real before shooting them from un-ranked to #10.

I'm just going to call it now.  Delaware will get a home playoff game if they finish in the top ten.  The revenue from a game at Delaware Stadium is one of the best possible in the FCS.  I just do not see a way you can give Wofford and NDSU home games over Delaware so quickly.

As always, my opinion is not the only one.  What's your take on the current projections?
